Sydney Homeless Connect or How to take your tax dollars & goodwill

Today (June 5th) 10 a.m. at Sydney Town Hall Sydney Homeless Connect host the annual trade show and marginalised persons fishing expedition of the Poverty industry.

The fishing expedition dishes up a hot lunch and commerce discards donated (some as tax writeoffs) as bait in an annual expedition to find marginalised people to monetise. Targeting the Sydney Homeless Community as hand-up tokens to utilise to collect your tax dollars your generous donations and possibly voluntary goodwill these organisations are in fact multimillion dollar annual turnover businesses, most quite unfamiliar to the Sydney Homeless community.

Its no accident that the Trades Show happens just before the end of the financial year- you might just write a donation which you can claim back in your tax return.

Standout among the parasites preying today are Mission Australia, the major beneficiary of cosy government relationships forged in the back-room secrecy of bipartisan Australian politics. Inaugural CEO Patrick McClure, an ex brother in the Brotherhood of St Laurence wrote the book on NGO relationships with Australian government and how both could monetise the marginalised. Its called “The McClure Report” and provides the roadmap for CDEP/ Workchoices and NT Intervention / Income Management -hugely beneficial to the poverty industry AND government.

The current “ten year plan” initiated by the Rudd Labor Government is The Road Home. Started in 2009 its a spend of $6 Billion of your Tax Dollars on “reducing homelessness by 50%”. Numerous requests to departments including direct in person requests to Ministers Mark Arbib and Tanya Plibersek to quantify the 50% referred to have gone unanswered. Is it 50% of the 2009 figure? Or an extrapolated 2019 figure? Or some other figure altogether? I’m sure they will tell us in 2019 but for now its a big secret –and a lie — based on the increased numbers of Homeless sleeping rough on the Streets of Sydney.

The SAAP plan provides much revenue and growth opportunity for “The Sector” as the Poverty Industry calls itself. New St Vincents de Paul buildings harvested from Social Housing property stock in Waterloo add resources to the NOT IN POVERTY Vinnies (and ultimately Catholic Church) , while shiny new vans and a vast array of ineffective programs drive your tax dollar further into the coffers of Mission Australia. The Salvos and Mission Australia are busy too finding jobs (sans sustainable incomes) for marginalised and slaves for an ever grateful profit conscious corporate sector.

City of Sydney and contract services provider NEAMI will most likely be there too… their nimby solutions to homelessness provide zero new affordable housing in the Sydney 2000 postcode. The City of Sydney provides only token homeless services and its contractor Neami is seen as a prime subverter of homelessness resources to assist mental health clients tipped from the health budget allowing Federal government to falcetiously claim savings and efficiencies in the Health portfolio.

Some smaller NFPs which legitimately provide services to the marginalised such as The Benjamin Footpath Library and Clothesline will more than likely be there too- mere window dressing for a Trade Show which you should be VERY sceptical of .

Charities and The Christmas Cash Cow

In News recently the Sydney Morning Herald says that Australians will give less to charities this year. That is a good thing. For too long the largesse of largely good natured and giving Australians has been taken as a soft touch by unaccountable charities . These charities profess to raise funds in the name of nominated constituencies such as homeless people and children -but what really happens to the money?? A large percentage is diverted into research and administrative accounts to fund bloated ulterior agendas in tandem with mammoth economic inefficiencies. Much of the goods and food given out as Christmas Hampers is in fact donated. Some “charities” give out only those donated goods which other tentacles of their cloaking operations cannot otherwise sell.Logistics are also donated. Much of the work is done by genuine volunteers as well as wageslaves , minimally paid people, or worse “Mutual Obligation” “volunteers” forced to carry out charity servitude in return for income support. So why, precisely,do these organisations need tens or hundreds of millions of dollars to facilitate their charitable purposes?

The awful truth is that for too long too many organisations and in particular those of christian origin, have callously leveraged poverty marginalisation and calamaties locally and internationally, to collect funds amounting to billions of dollars annually – funds which they are allowed to account for in such vague terms that the picture they present of the success of their programs bears no relationship to the often destructive reality of their actions.

Medecins Sans Frontieres

Amnesty International

Youth Off The Streets :  We reluctantly place this organisation in our do support category. It is a Uniting Church subsidiary and a DOCs service provider -both red flags which normally mean DO NOT SUPPORT. However YOTS appear to successfully transition their case managed charges.. so much that they are the only Youth organisation we know of whose former charges are not seen on the streets as adults. In addition, their founder, a Uniting Church Minister is no patsy, recently resigning from Premier Kristina Keneallys Homelessness committee.

Small independent community groups which you know the organisers of personally.

School Community Efforts.

  Do Not Support

Mission Australia: This organisation wrote the book on current government – charity partnership arrangements to monetise the marginalised and drive worker exploitation by greedy business partners. Objectives are to maximise ways in which marginalised people can be exploited. Employs ex police in management roles. Strongly suspected by street community of spying and providing information on homeless people to police and other anti homeless government agencies. Mission Australia has its origins in the Congregational Church, now part of perennial pariah Uniting Church.

Exodus Foundation: Parasitic organisation masquerading as a caring charity which in reality is a callous christian cash cow milking the gullible taxpayer for hundreds of millions of dollars by providing family destroying services to government family invader DOCs .Also engaged in invading aboriginal communities via whitening anglocentric education models forcing aboriginal people to prioritise duplicitous anglocentric “education” over indigenous culture.  Collaborated with State Government to take over the only effective Charity dealing with Homeless people in the Sydney CBD-now using that charitys good work as platform to raise extra millions of dollars in Made for TV imagery with little substance.Food delivered varies from tolerable on media nights) to causing food poisoning.

Uniting Church (or its many sub brands, except Youth off the Streets).

We especially ask that people DO NOT GIVE to Mission Australia , Uniting Church , Salvation Army or the myriad of cloaking “shirts”, brands which these invasive Government Funded organisations hide behind. These organisations are heavily involved and highly paid by government to deliver comunity destroying wageslavery and family intrusive and destroying DOCs and FACSIA programs.Programs which give government and its invasive agencies priority over people and families.Programs which lie to children and youth and misdirect their energies as fodder for those who will exploit them for capital gain. Programs which are designed to rob them of their true worth and pass that value to a few chosen families. There is ONE EXCEPTION. That organisation is Uniting Church shirt YOUTH OFF THE STREETS.

Homeless Fodder for NGO Money Machine

There is bipartisan political support in, at all levels of business and within the “poverty sector” for an approach treating homeless and other marginalised people as commodities-chips on a casino table where a few self elected, or sometimes government selected “leaders”,and government departments themselves use people as income generators for themselves.Nowhere is this more evident than in the Federal Governments “The Road Home” approach to homelessness. Together with over 6 billion dollars allocated from the Stimulus package-which will be paid off,we are told by Treasurer Wayne Swan,by 2019.This is a substantial amount of money – about 10% more than Rio Tinto paid in tax last year. Where is it going, and what is it being spent on?

Like the infamous and invasive Northern Territory Intervention, which ignores international Human Rights conventions to which Australia is a signatory, its easy to find the praise lavished upon the program by poverty industry types and politicians, and the reasons are exceedingly clear- the policies work exceptionally well for them and the organisations or departments which they represent. I have met just one ecstatic ex homeless person, who is over the moon about the housing solution he obtained- and he had a work relationship with the NGO which housed him.

In Sydney,we have the recently appointed Neami, holding themselves forth as the next good thing for homeless people. I had a homeless person contact me in the last few days, with diagnosed mental health issues and a recovery plan. Right up Neamis alley,I thought.I suggested she contact them.Oh.Theres a pre recorded message saying she needs a referral from a Health Service to use their case managers.Oh,she has a private psychiatrist? Shes disqualified, sorry.

While on the subject of Neami, there are rumblings of discontent from guys whom they offered jobs to,made jump through hoops, then told them that they needed to submit to a police check -AFTER COLLECTING THEIR PERSONAL information for their governmental and statistical database partners. Just another deceiving parasite NGO,it seems collecting rather a lot of money, to provide largely unnecessary “services” in place of housing.

On the subject of mental health, we have reported previously on the arrival of many ex mental institution care people on the streets, and their queue jumping-ahead even of families with children. Numbers unseen on the streets before, and appearing after “The Road Home”.

Since John Howard commissioned serial pariah Patrick McClure to compile “The McClure Report”, a feeding frenzy of NGOs have clamoured like pigs at the trough for the rivers of your tax money pouring from the leaking dam that is Australian Government. There was no issue raised of Patrick McClure ‘s self or ulterior motives at the time the report was released. The organisation he was then CEO (Mission Australia ) of made millions providing government with the wageslagery Workchoices which drove marginalisation. Mission Australia’s Mission Employment was and remains a leading provider of marginalised people as wageslaves, to be bent and exploited at the behest of greedy unscrupulous employers. The Salvation Army, ever on the lookout for a quid, saw no contradiction in this model, and rolled out its parrallel network, as did Kevin Rudd’s spouse Therese Rein, whose WorkDirections Australia was among the largest of these exploitative wageslavery NGOs.

The change of government drivers as Howard lost his grip on the steering wheel brought a flurry of name changes, but the “economy first” support the exploiters & fuck the workers agenda continues unabated. The change many so earnestly expected from Rudd, morphed into departmental name changes, tweaking of wording and maintenance of draconian pro business pro bank policies which enable a few, using the wealth stolen from aboriginals, to take control of ever more, while the people get ever less. Kevin Rudd PM’s spouse Therese Rein cashed in her marginalised people chips in Ingeus-Work Directions Australia, who are now Max Employment,to the tune of $12million – a just reward for enabling the exploitation of so many marginalised people by a few greedy boardroom dwellers. And who knows if she still has a controlling, or any interest  in that. But, like Mission Employment,Salvation Army,Max Employment and their ilk, they are still providing exploitative businesses with human fodder for their exploitation mills.

A search of the Job Network site last week revealed that very few of the thousands of “jobs” advertised stated what they would pay. Many used the phrase ‘award’ wages. Therese Rein’s Ingeus and Mission Australia were Howards Heroes when it came to awards. They wrote the book on Employer manufactured awards, written with a few token yes men workers, before the real workforce is hired. Undermining hard won workers rights.Award wages?? What the hell is that??

On July 1st, the marginalised safety net of Centrelink becomes a little less a safety net, and a little more about forcing people to accept unsafe, underpaid, exploitative working conditions, largely for the ‘self esteem’ of being able to say you have a job.Or you can become the direct slave of one of the plethora of multimillion dollar busnesses which masquerade behind the facade of “Not for profits”.

There are no government initiatives to raise Wages- to a level where they are sustainable, enabling a decent standard of living for workers.Instead, former union head honcho and current deputy PM Julia Gillard leads the chorus of ivory tower dwelling bipartisan politicians and economists singing ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’ to the same tune as the American Deep South once sang “slavery, slavery, slavery”.

Brothel Owner sides with DoCS

Urgent Call for Community Support;

Elect Sydneys Homeless Ambassador;

An anarchic group of homeless people and supporters are looking at setting up a semipermanent camp in a crossover of modelling between Brazils Favelas and Canberras Aboriginal Tent embassy. Among the sites under consideration is said to be the Sydney Domain area directly across the street from the parliamentary dining facility, affording DoCS minister Linda Burnie, Housing Minister and Gaming and Lotteries Minister Kevin Greene a reverse goldfish bowl opportunity to observe the impact of their policies at street level, while they feast at the largesse of taxpayers.

As the whole of government approach continues to increase the surpluses (in combined government funding corporate sponsorships and donations) among service providers, as demand increases at street level across Greater Sydney, the accessible services for homeless and marginalised people diminishes.

And as the State and Federal governments, and their NGO/NFP/Business partners apply ever more coercive strategies to force marginalised people to drive earnings for increasingly bottom line focussed charities the dillema for Homeless and Marginalised people is reminiscent of the Victorian Bushfires Fiasco; “Run and Hide” or “Stay and Fight.” Now we are NOT about to compare the Victorian Fire Authorities with the NSW Government. It would be  totally unfair on the Victorian Fire Authorities.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

Wesley Mission, who have according to their own account been a service provider since the 1820s, have recently closed their much used and now lamented meals service at the Edward Eagar Lodge in Surry Hills. This important service provided an important link in the food and social fabric of the inner city’s burgeoning street community sector which is afflicted by mental health issues. Wesley Mission have seemingly chosen to reject the coalface of need in line with government strategy, with their strategy shifting to SAAP modelling in which Marginalised people accessing their services become long term income generators, trapped in isolation from their foster kinship communities in the isolation of such facilities as The Noreen Towers Centre in Liverpool. With an inbuilt DoCS and Mental Health spying program which clients are not told exists and can be used against them in any future proceedings various arms of government, or Wesley Mission itself may choose to institute. A dangerous radical extension of these policies; Person with assets is diagnosed as “mentally incompetent”, so Wesley get to determine where their assets go. Or any other SAAP.

We are astounded to find that Mission Beat, that innovative corporately funded income generator unit of Charity/NFP/Business Mission Australia, which recently announced a mobile bike patrol service, no longer run their van services, which for many years took drunks and drug affected people off the streets to the relative safety of drunk tanks and detox units, no longer operates full time- and the hours which they have cut out include weekend nights, which everyone except Mission Australia knows is the most critically underserviced time frame, and arguably when the risks are highest-when the going gets tough, the tough get going.Long gone is the unlamented Swanton Lodge, a Sydney City Mission run pigsty which nevertheless did provide emergency beds. Of course, Mission Australias ex CEO, and the ex head honcho of Perth City Mission, was credited as the architect of Howard/Costellos marginalised services reform, ramming the slave labour Workchoices program down the throats of the community, and coercing the population to work for pittances which actually saw workers families worse off than ever. And of course, as a contractor to the Australian government Mission Australia did exceedingly well-financially. The whole notion of mutual responsibility as espoused by this series of invasive programs is morally flawed. Mutual responsibility pre-existed the Howard definition and is the fundimental basis of the Social Security system. When you work or generate income, you pay tax, so that when you don’t, the government picks up some of your costs. Thats mutual obligation. Howard and his cronies simply created an extra and onerous set of obligations which created massive new revenue streams for Mission Australia, and other FACS/DEETYA contractors, and a pool of among the most ineptly trained jobless in the world.

We found out about Missionbeat not operating 24 hours only when we rang on behalf of a drug/alcohol affected guy who ended up being attended to by ambulance officers-and they arrived almost before we called, well done, AMBOs. We fully support NSW AMBOs and if they have a tenfold increase in funding we will applaud the orchestrators of that decision- we just don’t see anyone in NSW Labor who has the balls to do it. Ambos don’t get paid enough and their service is underfunded.FIX IT!!!.

And joining (or encouraging) the throng at the exit gates is the Marie Antoinette of NSW Labor, Linda Burney, who thinks that 50,000 people who are homeless every night over the next ten years don’t need any government assistance…. and Ms Burnies response to MP Sylvia Hales question ;!OpenDocument in which she states; “The City of Sydney and the Department of Community Services have been working together on a range of strategies with day programs and food services to increase coordination and integration of programs to ensure homeless people are assisted out of the homelessness cycle rather that sustained in sub-standard conditions.” We are not sure that Sydney City are in agreement with this.

In NSW Parliament this week, in fact, there has been a committee sitting to discuss Homelessness and Low Cost accommodation. Once again, the parliamentary committee will spend weeks considerng the views and objectives of the very poverty industry operatives who have benefitted from a plethora of social programs concocted and connived by an array of Federal and State governments since federation. Well, our research shows that in fact homelessness is a lifestyle which predates federation. We know that the current generation of submitters to the State and Federal Government policy committees will drive more earnings for their NGOs. Thats what happens when you try to solve a problem by listening to those whose financial wellbeing is dependent upon the problem continuing to exist? A nice, cosy arrangement where the relevant ministers increase their power, and the relevant NGOs increase their earnings. Where are the benefits to marginalised communities and people? You will have to ask the perpetrators of this travesty, because marginalised people don’t see them-just the scraps from the well fed at the welfare table.

(We base the above calculation on the prime minister,Mr Rudds figures, which indicate 105,000 homeless every night nationwide, and a goal of reducing this by 50% by 2020. We think he has grossly underestimated the figure, and many from various branches of social services privately agree. But we will use it. And use conservative accounting principles in all our calculations,as we do.)

If Ms Burnie is Marie Antoinette, then Minister Kevin Greene of the OLGR surely deserves to the title of Guy Fawkes for his role and stonewalling in the demise of Just Enough Faith. And we would not have a view if he were in fact treated like Guy Fawkes; at least Sydney homeless may be able to keep warm for a while at the bonfire!!!

By the same definitions, we see John Oliver,Tim Buckley or Alan Byrne architects of the demise of Just Enough Faith, as  Pinnochio Goofy and Mickey Mouse… the three advisors whom the mainstream media based and OLGR based their trial and execution of Just Enough Faith and Jef Gambin on.

And,we confidently predict that the Lazarus in this story will be Jef and Alina Gambin, who will again take their rightful place at the head of the homeless and community table, analysing for and servicing the immediate needs of Sydneys Homeless and Marginalised community, because Governments and their feeding frenzy of baitfish NGO contractors won’t.
